Chatham Township Resident Sentenced for July 4th Stabbing

CHATHAM TOWNSHIP, NJ – Brian Kozub, a 39-year-old Chatham Township resident, has been sentenced in relation to a stabbing incident on July 4.

On Monday, Judge Stephen J. Taylor issued a five-year sentence at the New Jersey State Prison, with 85% parole ineligibility according to the No Early Release Act. Kozub is also prohibited from contacting the victim.

On September 19, Kozub entered a guilty plea for second-degree Aggravated Assault.

The incident on July 4 saw Kozub reportedly stab a 51-year-old male in the neck with a pocketknife at a Buxton Road residence during Fourth of July celebrations. The victim suffered severe injuries.

Since his arrest, Kozub has been held at the Morris County Correctional Facility. The successful prosecution involved efforts from Chatham Township Police, Morris County Sheriff’s Office, and Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.
