Chesapeake police arrest 19-year-old after juvenile shot, vehicle pursuit

Chesapeake, VA – A 19-year-old man is in custody after police said a juvenile was shot and injured Sunday morning, sparking a vehicle pursuit that ended with an arrest.

Officers responded around 11:45 a.m. to Sunrise Avenue, where they found a juvenile suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Investigators later located a crime scene on Weaver Street connected to the shooting. While processing the area, officers heard additional gunfire nearby and obtained a description of a suspect vehicle.

Police attempted a traffic stop after spotting the vehicle, but the driver fled. A short pursuit followed, ending with the arrest of 19-year-old Jahmeeze Dennis.

Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the community.
