Child grazed in crossfire, one dead in pair of North Philly shootings minutes apart

PHILADELPHIA — Police are investigating two separate shootings that erupted within minutes of each other Thursday night in North Philadelphia, leaving one man dead, four others injured, and a 7-year-old girl grazed by a bullet.

The first shooting occurred at around 8:14 p.m. in the 25th District, where officers responded to the 100 block of West Tioga Street. A 42-year-old man had been shot multiple times and was rushed by police to Temple University Hospital. He remains in critical condition. No arrests have been made, and the motive remains unknown. The Shooting Investigation Group is handling the case.

Ten minutes later, at 8:24 p.m., police were called to another shooting scene on the 1900 block of West Hunting Park Avenue in the 22nd District. Four people were shot, including a child.

A 7-year-old girl sustained a graze wound to the side of her head. She was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center by a private vehicle and is listed in stable condition. Her mother, a 26-year-old woman, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was brought to Temple University Hospital, also in stable condition.

A 29-year-old man was shot several times and transported by officers to Temple, where he is in critical condition. Another man, 26, also shot multiple times, was pronounced dead at the hospital at 8:37 p.m.

The Homicide Unit is leading the investigation. Police have not made any arrests and have not identified a motive in either shooting.

Both shootings remain under active investigation with no suspects in custody.
