Chris Christie Given Remdesivir As He Enters Second Week In Hospital With COVID 19

MORRISTOWN, NJ – Former New Jersey Governor Christie remains hospitalized and he said he has been given remdesivir as part of his continued treatment for COVID-19.  Christie, who is among a dozen high-profile Republicans infected with the virus has been struck the hardest, according to reports.  While most of his counterparts are at home recovering, others are still waiting to see if they contracted the virus, Christie remains hospitalized in Morris County.

Remdesivir is a therapeutic option for COVID-19 patients that consists usually of a 10-day course.  It is typically given to patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection who had an oxygen saturation of 94% or less while they were breathing ambient air or who were receiving oxygen support.   After reports that Christie was on a ventilator, that rumor was claimed to have been debunked by many of the state’s local newspaper fact-checkers

According to a report in the New England Journal of Medicine, Patients who are given remdesivir typically have a shorter time to recovery than patients in a placebo group who were not given remdesivir.
