Gaithersburg, Md. — A Montgomery County man’s coffee run turned into a lucky day after he won $50,000 on a MONOPOLY X100 scratch-off ticket.

The retired builder stopped at the Wawa on South Frederick Road in Gaithersburg, where he decided to try his luck on the $20 scratch-off. His first ticket won $50, but the second revealed a message instructing him to claim his prize, leading to the discovery of his $50,000 win.

The winner, who typically keeps his lottery play minimal, has shared the news with only a few people and plans to use his winnings to support his children.

The MONOPOLY X100 game launched on Jan. 13 and still has five $1 million top prizes and four additional $50,000 second-tier prizes remaining.
