Columbia Heights shooter cuffed after man found shot in home

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a Saturday night shooting in Columbia Heights that left one person seriously injured, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Officers responded around 11:46 p.m. on May 10 to the 1300 block of Columbia Road NW after receiving reports of a shooting. Inside a residence at the scene, police discovered an adult male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Responding officers quickly located a suspect nearby. A firearm was also recovered from the area.

Suspect charged with assault as police continue investigation

The suspect, identified as Kyiel Kearny, 21, of Southeast D.C., was arrested at the scene and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. Investigators have not disclosed a motive, and the incident remains under active investigation.
