Columbus police identify 14-year-old wanted for murder of teen girl on New Year’s Eve

COLUMBUS, OH – Detectives investigating the New Year’s Eve murder of a 15-year-old girl in the Mount Vernon neighborhood of Columbus have identified 14-year-old Michael “Mike Mike” McCurdy as the suspect.

McCurdy, now a fugitive from justice in considered to be armed and dangerous.

On New Year’s Eve, police responded to a shooting incident on Atcheson Street to find 15-year-old Unique Prater with a fatal gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Unique was becoming my fully upcoming grown teenager that has been through a lot. I will truly miss and cherish our special moments and memories together,” her mother said.

A funeral service for Prater was held on Monday at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church.
