COMMERCE CITY, CO — Police are searching for the person or persons responsible for throwing a dog out of a moving car at a busy intersection in Commerce City last week, resulting in the animal’s euthanasia due to severe injuries.

The incident occurred on November 23 at approximately 7:45 p.m. at the intersection of East 64th Avenue and Monaco Street. Witnesses reported seeing a dog thrown from the passenger side window of a moving vehicle. A Good Samaritan tried to assist the dog before police arrived, but the animal had suffered a broken spine, was unable to move, and was in significant pain.

Officers transported the dog to an emergency veterinarian, where it was determined that the injuries were too severe to be treated, and the dog was euthanized.

Commerce City police later received a report from a man who claimed to be the dog’s owner. According to him, the dog, identified as “Rambo,” was left in his backyard and gone when he returned. Investigators are working to determine how the dog ended up in the vehicle and who is responsible for the cruelty that followed.

The person or people involved in this act could face felony aggravated animal cruelty charges. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward and help identify the individuals responsible.
