Connecticut man sentenced to 14 years for I-95 road rage shooting

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Stephen Escoffery, 45, of Waterbury, Conn., was sentenced Thursday to 14 years in prison for opening fire on another motorist during a road rage incident on Interstate 95 in December 2022.

Westchester County Court Judge Maurice Dean Williams also imposed five years of post-release supervision and issued an Order of Protection for the victim.

Escoffery was convicted last month of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and first-degree reckless endangerment.

According to prosecutors, Escoffery brandished a pistol and fired at another driver’s vehicle after a non-verbal dispute while driving northbound on I-95 near Harrison, N.Y.

During sentencing, the victim’s statement was read aloud in court, expressing the lasting psychological impact of the incident, saying, “Driving on the highway at night has become an anxiety-ridden experience for me.”

The case was investigated by New York State Police Troop K, with assistance from several law enforcement agencies, including the Westchester County Department of Public Safety.
