Cops trying to ID child found alone in Maryland street

UPDATE: The child has been identified and parents have been located. 

CALVERTON, MD — Montgomery County authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying a young child who was found alone Wednesday morning in a residential neighborhood.

The child, believed to be about 3 or 4 years old, was located at approximately 10:25 a.m. in the 12500 block of Galway Drive in Calverton, police said.

He is described as approximately 3 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 40 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. The boy was found unaccompanied, and officers have so far been unable to locate his guardians or family members.

The Montgomery County Department of Police released a photograph of the child and is urging anyone with information about his identity or the whereabouts of his family to contact them immediately.

As of Wednesday afternoon, no relatives or guardians had come forward. Police are continuing to canvass the area and speak with residents in an effort to determine how the child came to be alone.
