FISHKILL, NY – An incident at the Fishkill Correctional Facility on Monday evening resulted in a corrections officer sustaining a gunshot wound to his leg.
Emergency services attended to the officer’s injury on-site.
The shooting is believed to have occurred at the weapons firing range around 7 p.m. during a target practice session.
It remains unclear who discharged the weapon that led to the officer’s injury.
The officer, aged 45, is believed to have been accidentally shot during the exercise.
