U.S. Senator Cory Booker has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for president. This endorsement comes shortly after President Joe Biden decided not to seek re-election, instead throwing his support behind Harris.

Senator Booker, who competed against Harris in the 2020 presidential primaries, expressed enthusiastic support for her candidacy. “For the last decade, I’ve had the privilege of calling Kamala Harris a friend, a Senate colleague, my Vice President — my sister,” Booker stated. He emphasized his eagerness to support her campaign to make history as the next president.

New Jersey plays a crucial role with its 145 delegates at the Democratic National Convention scheduled for August. While 19 of these delegates are automatic and cannot vote on the first ballot in a contested convention, such a scenario seems increasingly unlikely given the early consolidation of support for Harris. A state-wide delegate meeting is set for tonight to discuss a potential unanimous endorsement for Harris from the New Jersey delegation.

Since Biden’s announcement, Harris has seen a surge in support from Democratic leaders across the country, including in New Jersey. Governor Phil Murphy and every Democratic member of the U.S. House from New Jersey have also endorsed her. The support extends to numerous lower-level elected Democrats throughout the state.
