NEWARK-Hours after announcing his Presidential candidacy, New Jersey Senator Cory Booker said President Donald J. Trump’s proposal to send illegal immigrants to America’s illegal immigrant sanctuary cities will make New Jersey less safe.

“He’s trying to make us less safe,” the New Jersey Senator said.  New Jersey is now widely considered a sanctuary state after a December 2018 directive by Attorney General Gurbir Grewal and Governor Phil Murphy limited interactions between law enforcement and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Booker made the announcement during an interview on CBS News’ “Face the Nation” program.

Grewal and Murphy have yet to respond to Trump’s plan to bus illegal immigrants to sanctuaries such as New Jersey.
