County Police Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting in Ben Avon

Ben Avon, PA – The Allegheny County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred early this morning in Ben Avon.

At 1:34 a.m., Avalon Police reported shots fired and a vehicle fleeing following an attempted traffic stop along Ohio River Boulevard. Preliminary information indicates that Avalon Police officers attempted to stop a vehicle with tinted windows and a tinted license plate cover traveling north. The vehicle initially pulled over but did not come to a complete stop.

Moments later, the vehicle came to a stop, and an officer from Ohio Township Police arrived on scene, positioning his vehicle in front of the suspect vehicle. As Avalon Police officers approached, the driver pulled out into the roadway, making contact with an Avalon Police Officer. The officer fired one shot at the vehicle as it fled towards Pittsburgh. The officer was not injured.

Detectives identified the vehicle and located it around 6:00 a.m. in the Homewood section of Pittsburgh. The vehicle had a bullet hole in the driver’s side window. The 25-year-old male driver was also located and found to be uninjured. No charges have been filed at this time.

The investigation is ongoing, and upon completion, it will be turned over to the district attorney’s office for review.
