Cranford, New Jersey- the Cranford Police Department today announced that a new no-truck sign has been installed after the Cranford Township committee voted to designate Orchard St as a no-truck traffic thoroughfare.

Orchard Street has routinely been used by heavy-duty trucks and tractor trailers as a cut-through and shortcut.

“Thanks to residents of Orchard Street for pointing out the recent influx of tractor-trailer thru-traffic on Orchard Street – which was being used as a cut-thru for truck traffic. As a result, the Traffic Bureau submitted an ordinance amendment proposal to the Township Committee and Orchard Street was subsequently designated by the Township Committee as a no truck route. Deliveries are still allowed, but no trucks over certain weights are permitted to use Orchard Street as a cut-thru,” the township said today.

“Currently, there are truck restrictions on adjacent roadways including Holly Street and Brookside Place. It is our goal to reduce Orchard Street truck cut-thru traffic in advance of the upcoming school year,” the Cranford Police Department said.
