NEW YORK, NY – The Monday morning rush brought a mix of crashes, disabled vehicles, and construction projects that slowed traffic on highways across New York.
On Long Island, I-495 westbound near Exit 35 in North Hempstead saw a crash blocking the right shoulder, while the Southern State Parkway had separate incidents: a crash westbound at Exit 13N in Hempstead blocking the shoulder and a disabled vehicle eastbound at Exit 27N. Additional lane closures were reported on Bay Parkway in Hempstead, where roadwork was scheduled through 3 p.m.
In the city, two lanes were shut on the Bronx River Parkway northbound at Exit 7E after a crash, while a disabled truck on the I-87 Major Deegan Expressway southbound at West Kingsbridge Road blocked a center lane. Emergency construction also continued to close the NY 9A northbound ramp to West 129th Street for the long term.
Upstate, the NYS Thruway eastbound saw multiple issues, including a crash near Exit 45 in Victor and roving repairs in Batavia and Henrietta. Elsewhere, construction slowed traffic on I-87 Northway northbound at Exit 32 in Lewis, as well as US 9 and US 6/202 in Cortlandt, both under lane closures until 3:30 p.m.
In the Hudson Valley, NY 218 in Cornwall remained fully closed in both directions due to a debris spill and non-hazardous roadway spill. Portable bathrooms were also in place at the NY 17 Roscoe Rest Stop in Sullivan County as water and septic system repairs continued, with work scheduled through October 31.
Delays were widespread, with lane reductions and construction adding to the already heavy volume of morning commuters.
