Cumberland man arrested for alleged assault on East Roberts Street

CUMBERLAND, Md. — A man was arrested on Sunday after an alleged assault at a residence on East Roberts Street, according to the Cumberland Police Department.

Officers responded to the 100 block of E. Roberts Street at approximately 4:55 p.m. following a report of an assault. Upon arrival, they spoke with the alleged victim, who stated that Dexter Smith, 44, had assaulted her. Police observed injuries on the victim that were consistent with her account.

Smith was arrested and charged with second-degree assault. He was transported to Central Booking and later appeared before a District Court Commissioner.

Smith was released on his personal recognizance following the hearing.
