Cumberland Resident Arrested for Assault Following Physical Altercation

CUMBERLAND, MD — A Cumberland resident, James Steven Whittington, 35, has been arrested on assault charges after police responded to a domestic incident. On Friday, April 19, Cumberland City Police were called to a residence on the 300 block of Grand Ave due to a reported assault.

Officers discovered that a verbal argument within the home escalated into a physical confrontation. During the altercation, it is alleged that Whittington choked another individual in the residence, leaving visible injuries. He has been charged with first and second degree assault and is currently awaiting an initial appearance in court.
