Cyclist dies after November crash in Northeast D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC — A 30-year-old cyclist who was injured in a crash in Northeast DC last November has died from his injuries, police said Monday.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, November 12, at approximately 12:41 p.m. at the intersection of Queens Chapel Road and Channing Street NE. The cyclist, Alexander Nikolenko of Northeast DC, was traveling southbound on Queens Chapel Road when a black Nissan Armada entered the intersection from Channing Street.

Nikolenko attempted to avoid the vehicle but lost control of his bicycle, falling and striking his head. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment but was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

On Friday, January 3, members of the Major Crash Investigations Unit were notified that Nikolenko had succumbed to his injuries.
