Washington, D.C. – Joshua Dorsey, 29, of Washington, D.C., has been sentenced to 96 months in prison for aggravated assault while armed, U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela A. Smith announced today. The sentencing follows Dorsey’s guilty plea on November 17, 2023, before Judge Anthony J. Epstein in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
The conviction stems from a violent incident on September 26, 2023, where Dorsey assaulted a victim near the intersection of MLK Jr. Avenue Southeast and Good Hope Road Southeast. The assault began with Dorsey striking the victim with his fists before escalating to him stabbing the victim eight to nine times in the chest and back with a knife. The attack resulted in the victim suffering a collapsed lung and a stab wound to the right eye, which has left the victim’s ability to see again uncertain.
Following his prison term, Dorsey will undergo five years of supervised release. Additionally, Dorsey is scheduled to be sentenced on March 1, 2024, in a separate case for second-degree cruelty and attempted strangulation in Superior Court.
