D.C. Police Arrest Suspect Who Hid Murder Victim’s Body Inside Garbage Can

Washington, D.C. – A significant development has occurred in the investigation of a grisly fatal shooting in Southeast DC.

Detectives have arrested 34-year-old Emmanuel Lewis, who is now facing charges of Second Degree Murder while Armed. The Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force made this arrest on Tuesday following a DC Superior Court arrest warrant.

The case dates back to the evening of Monday, October 30, 2023, when Sixth District officers were called to the 1800 block of Fairlawn Avenue, Southeast. There, they discovered adult male human remains inside a trash can. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later determined the cause of death to be multiple gunshot wounds and classified it as a homicide.

The deceased was identified as 25-year-old Kwame Keith, who had no fixed address.
