Dad Arrested for Nearly Shaking Infant to Death on Thanksgiving

UTICA, NY – A distressing incident involving a 3-month-old child led to the arrest of 22-year-old Miguel Pizarro in Utica. At approximately 1:45 PM on November 23, 2023, Utica Fire and Police units responded to a call from a residence on the 900 block of Lenox Ave, where they found an unresponsive infant showing signs of neurological and physical distress.

The investigation revealed that the child’s father, Pizarro, had shaken the baby, causing significant injuries. Pizarro had left the scene before the arrival of the first responders.

The Utica Fire Department quickly transported the child to Wynn Hospital for immediate medical attention. Despite life-saving efforts, a CT scan revealed a significant brain bleed, and the child’s condition worsened, necessitating a transfer to a hospital in Syracuse.

A Be On the Lookout (BOLO) alert was issued for Pizarro. An investigator from the Warrants Unit, using information about Pizarro’s whereabouts, conducted surveillance and, with the assistance of the Patrol Division, arrested him without incident.

Further interrogation by the Criminal Investigations Division uncovered additional physical harm inflicted on the child by Pizarro. He currently faces a single charge of Reckless Assault of a Child.
