Damascus Man Arrested on Multiple Assault Charges in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD – The Montgomery County Department of Police – 5th District Community Action Team has arrested Julio Melendez, a 26-year-old Damascus resident. Melendez faces four counts each of first-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

Officers responded to a reported shooting near a 7-Eleven store on the 12100 block of Snowden Farm Pkwy, on Friday, May 12, 2023. The investigation revealed that Melendez, after a verbal altercation with a group of teenagers, pointed a shotgun at the group and made threats. Officers later located Melendez driving a black Ford Explorer in a residential neighborhood. Melendez was taken into custody, and a Citadel shotgun and a large amount of ammunition were found in his vehicle.
