Youth curfew zones hit DC neighborhoods ahead of weekend

WASHINGTON, DC — Police are rolling out special juvenile curfew zones across parts of Washington, D.C., targeting areas where large groups of teens have been gathering.

The Metropolitan Police Department announced three designated zones covering Navy Yard, Chinatown, and the U Street Corridor.

The curfews will be in effect from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. on March 20, 21, and 22.

Under the order, anyone under 18 is prohibited from gathering in groups of nine or more in public spaces within the designated zones, unless participating in exempted activities.

The move comes as officials aim to prevent potential safety risks tied to large youth gatherings.

Police said the curfew zones were established under a law allowing temporary restrictions in areas where public safety concerns arise.

A separate citywide juvenile curfew remains in place from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
