DC police officer dies after 16 years of service with the force

WASHINGTON, DC — Officer LaCarsha Garrett, a 16-year veteran of the Metropolitan Police Department, has died after what officials described as a “courageous battle with illness.”

Garrett, who joined the department in 2008, served as part of the seventh district’s administrative staff and was remembered for her dedication and service to the community.

Her passing was announced on Wednesday, Nov. 27, in a statement from MPD, which offered condolences to her family and loved ones during what it called a difficult time.

“Our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the department wrote in its announcement.
