WASHINGTON, D.C. — A Washington man is $50,000 richer after winning the DC Lottery twice in a single week, officials announced Thursday.

Otis O., a local sanitation worker, claimed two $25,000 prizes from the DC 5 game in separate visits to the DC Lottery Prize Center. The first win came after Otis decided to try his luck, inspired by a conversation with his barber who had previously won.

Just days later, while cleaning up and reviewing his remaining tickets, Otis discovered he had hit the jackpot a second time — with another $25,000 prize.

He told lottery officials he didn’t expect a second win and had originally only checked one ticket. After the surprise double win, he shared plans to buy new clothes and continue helping others.

The DC Lottery did not disclose the exact draw dates of the winning tickets but confirmed both prizes were claimed in the same week.
