Police handcuffs and criminal fingerprints card

NEWARK, DE – Delaware State Police have apprehended 43-year-old Ronnie Steele of Delaware City for what marks his sixth felony DUI offense. The arrest occurred on the morning of Monday, July 1, 2024, in Newark.

Authorities were called to the Lunch Box Garage on 2742 Pulaski Highway after a report of a black GMC pickup truck obstructing the business’s garage doors. Upon arrival, a trooper found Steele asleep at the wheel of a 2021 GMC Sierra, which was parked and left in reverse in the parking lot. Despite being awakened by the garage staff initially, Steele had fallen asleep again after moving the vehicle.

Steele showed several signs of impairment and refused to perform field sobriety tests. A subsequent check revealed five previous DUI convictions. Steele was taken into custody without further incident and later charged. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and is currently held at Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $10,000 cash bond.
