Delaware police investigating road rage shooting on Route 1 in Smyrna

SMYRNA, Del. — Delaware State Police are investigating a road rage incident that escalated into a shooting Friday night on Route 1 southbound near Exit 119.

Troopers responded to the scene at approximately 8:43 p.m. on March 14 after receiving reports of gunfire. Investigators determined that a black Infiniti sedan and a black pickup truck had been involved in a road rage altercation while driving southbound.

During the incident, the suspect vehicle struck the rear of the Infiniti before pulling alongside it. An unidentified suspect then fired a gun, hitting the victim’s vehicle.

The Infiniti’s driver, a 27-year-old Delaware man, and his two passengers were not injured. The suspect vehicle did not stop and continued traveling southbound on Route 1.

Authorities have not released a description of the suspect or the suspect vehicle. The investigation remains ongoing.
