Delaware State Police Investigating Attempted Child Kidnapping in Smyrna

SMYRNA, Del. — Delaware State Police are investigating an attempted kidnapping that occurred on Saturday night in the Holly Hills Estates neighborhood of Smyrna. The incident took place on August 24, 2024, at approximately 8:41 p.m.

Troopers responded to Spruce Court after receiving reports of a suspicious person in the area. Upon arrival, officers learned that an unknown male suspect had approached a 12-year-old child and began asking them questions. During the interaction, the suspect grabbed the child by the arm. The child was able to escape and call for help.

The suspect fled the scene before police arrived. Despite an extensive search by troopers and detectives, the suspect remains at large. Fortunately, the child was not injured during the incident.

The suspect is described as a white male with a thin build, between 20 and 30 years old, standing approximately 5’10” to 6’0” tall, with blue or green eyes, dirty blonde hair, and no facial hair. He was last seen wearing black pants and a black hooded sweatshirt.

Authorities are continuing their investigation and have asked anyone with information about the suspect or the incident to come forward.
