Did Mikie Sherrill Sink Her Campaign With Hateful Smear of Charlie Kirk, Assassinated by Left-Wing Radical

Mikie Sherrill under fire for remarks on slain conservative activist

Newark, NJ – Rep. Mikie Sherrill is facing intense backlash after issuing a statement in which she described assassinated conservative commentator Charlie Kirk as a “racist” and “bigot,” even as she condemned the political violence that claimed his life when he was assassinated by a radicalized left-wing man from Utah, who was in an affair with a trans man.

“I had enough of his hatred,” Tyler Robinson wrote before murdering Kirk. “Some hate can’t be negotiated out.”

Kirk was shot in the neck with a high-powered rifle that was watched by tens of millions of people. It was rhetoric like Sherrill’s that drove the shooter to kill him.

Sherrill’s attempt to appease compassionate New Jerseyans, while catering to her far-left radical base fell short.

In her remarks, Sherrill said Kirk’s advocacy for what she called a “Christian nationalist government” and efforts to “roll back the rights of women and Black people” were fundamentally at odds with her values. While acknowledging that the Constitution protects free speech, she criticized former President Donald Trump for what she described as hypocrisy in both denouncing Kirk’s killing and attempting to silence critics of Kirk’s views.

“Charlie Kirk’s murder was horrific, and it’s up to all of us to stand against political violence,” Sherrill stated. “In these times, I will continue to condemn political violence, racism, attacks on women, and the hypocrisy coming from Trump and his acolytes.”

Her comments sparked swift condemnation from Republicans, including New Jersey gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli, who blasted Sherrill for what he called a reversal on her earlier vote to honor Kirk’s life in Congress.

“Mikie Sherrill’s hypocrisy knows no bounds,” Ciattarelli wrote on social media. “After voting ‘YES’ on a resolution honoring Charlie Kirk’s life and condemning his violent death, Mikie reversed course and sided with the extremists in her own party by putting out a statement attacking a fellow American, a son, a husband, and a father who was assassinated for speaking his mind. It’s inexcusable and disqualifying.”

The controversy threatens to overshadow Sherrill’s campaign, with opponents framing her remarks as politically damaging and disrespectful to Kirk’s supporters. Democrats, meanwhile, have largely stayed quiet on the fallout, leaving Sherrill to defend her position as she navigates the escalating political storm.

Mikie Sherrill was once a Navy pilot.
