Dispute Over Microwave Use Leads to Assault and Vandalism in Jail

RAPPAHANNOCK REGIONAL JAIL — A heated argument over microwave usage in a jail cell block escalated into physical assault and property damage. The incident occurred on July 14th, handled by Deputy J.J. Suh at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

During the dispute, one inmate attacked another, resulting in additional chaos that also saw the damage of an ice machine within the cell block. This damage mirrored another incident that weekend, where an ice machine at a local Valero station was vandalized.

Authorities, after reviewing jail surveillance footage, have charged 38-year-old Keith Sheppard of Washington, D.C., with assault and battery as well as felony vandalism. Sheppard remains in custody at the jail as the investigation continues.
