Domestic Disturbance Leads to Police Pursuit in Sparta

SPARTA, WI – On Saturday, at approximately 10:13 pm, the Sparta Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance in the City of Sparta. The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Mark Topness of Sparta, fled the scene before officers arrived.

Officers located Topness shortly after and engaged in a pursuit when he attempted to evade capture. During the pursuit, Topness turned off his vehicle’s taillights and drove through a cornfield.

His vehicle eventually became stuck on an embankment, leading to his safe apprehension.

Topness is currently detained in the Monroe County Jail, facing multiple charges including 2nd-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Operating While Under the Influence – 6th Offense, and other offenses.

The Sparta Police Department acknowledges the assistance of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and Sparta Ambulance.
