Domestic violence turns deadly in Northwest D.C. with one man killed

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 32-year-old man was fatally shot early Thursday morning inside a Northwest D.C. apartment in what police say was a domestic dispute.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:31 a.m. in the Unit block of Ridge Square, Northwest. Officers arrived to find the victim, identified as Terell Cortez West of Northeast D.C., suffering from gunshot wounds inside the apartment. DC Fire and EMS responded, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene after showing no signs of life.

An adult female at the scene was also assaulted with a weapon during the incident. She was treated on site for minor injuries, according to police.

Preliminary findings indicate that the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute, though no further details have been released.
