MANHATTAN, N.Y. — A 60-year-old man has been charged in connection with a fatal crash that killed a 78-year-old pedestrian on the Upper East Side, police said.

Darrell Lopez was arrested Tuesday within the confines of the NYPD’s 19th Precinct and charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to use due care.

The charges stem from a June 13 incident when Lopez, driving a gray 2023 Nissan Pathfinder, struck Virginia Renta as she crossed East 93rd Street midblock.

Renta was transported to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Lopez remained at the scene, and the NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad continues to investigate the incident.
