Driver Charged in Connection with Deadly Pedestrian Crash in Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, NY – A fatal pedestrian collision that occurred on Thursday, December 22, 2022, has led to the recent arrest of 42-year-old Jorge Gonzalez-Cadme.

The collision occurred at the intersection of 68 Street and Bliss Terrace around 10:12 pm. The victim, Norman Fruchter, an 85-year-old male resident of Brooklyn, was hit by Gonzalez-Cadme’s 2021 Hyundai Elantra as he was backing up.

Fruchter, who suffered head trauma, was rushed to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn but succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, January 4.

Gonzalez-Cadme, who remained at the scene and was uninjured, has been charged with criminally negligent homicide, reckless driving, speed violation: imprudent speed, and unsafe backing of a vehicle.

The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad continues to investigate the incident.
