BERGEN COUNTY, NJ – On Saturday, around 2:08 am, the Teaneck Police Department responded to a reported single-car accident on Teaneck Road near Bilton Street.

The vehicle, a 2021 BMW M850i operated by Teddy Mejia of 106 Jasper Avenue, Teaneck, NJ, left the road, struck a tree, and overturned.

While Mejia was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment, two unidentified male passengers were declared dead at the scene. Suspicion arose that Mejia was driving under the influence of alcohol. Upon his arrest, a suspected controlled substance was found on his person.

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella has since charged Mejia with two counts of second-degree vehicular homicide while under the influence and third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

Additional charges include driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and failure to maintain a lane. Mejia will be held at the Bergen County Jail upon his release from medical care, awaiting a court appearance in Hackensack, NJ.
