E-ZPass Scam Targeting New York and New Jersey, Nonstop

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. — Scammers are targeting E-ZPass customers in New York and New Jersey, and they’re relentless. Unfortunately, many people are falling for it.

Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh is warning residents about a fraudulent E-ZPass text message scam targeting individuals in New York and New Jersey.

Scammers are sending text messages claiming to collect unpaid tolls, often from international numbers or email addresses. The messages prompt recipients to reply with “Y” to receive a link, which directs them to an unofficial website.

Authorities emphasize that E-ZPass and Tolls by Mail will never request personal or financial information via text or email.

Residents who receive suspicious messages are advised to contact E-ZPass directly at 1-800-333-8655 or Tolls by Mail at 1-844-826-8400. Suspected scams or illegal activity can also be reported anonymously through the Rockland County District Attorney’s tip411 system.

Officials urge residents to remain cautious and avoid clicking on links from unknown senders.
