Burglars hit Coolidge Street home for $14K in early morning break-in caught on video
SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — A residential burglary in the 600 block of Coolidge Street early Saturday morning left a home ransacked and nearly $15,000 worth of valuables stolen, according to police.
The incident occurred around 6:12 a.m. on November 8, when officers Johnson, Went, and Testa responded to a triggered burglary alarm at the residence. Upon arrival, Officer Testa discovered forced entry through a rear glass door on the south side of the home.
An interior sweep of the property was conducted, confirming no suspects remained inside. During the check, officers found a kitchen drawer near the rear entry rummaged through, with its contents scattered across the floor.
Home security footage revealed a masked individual in a hooded sweatshirt approaching the front door at 6:12 a.m., attempting to open it unsuccessfully before moving to a front window. Officers later found the screen from that window damaged.
Another surveillance clip captured at 6:21 a.m. showed two suspects attempting to open two vehicles — a 2020 black BMW 440 and a 2021 black BMW X6 — parked in the driveway. Both individuals were seen holding handbags or purses and fled west on foot toward Salter Place after failing to access the cars.
A BMW X5 was observed in the street, apparently waiting to pick up the suspects.
The homeowner reported that $14,700 worth of property was stolen during the burglary. The case remains under investigation.
