Stafford deputies arrest two in overnight DUI cases including one repeat offender

STAFFORD, VA – Two drivers were arrested in separate incidents during the early morning hours Friday for driving under the influence in Stafford County, one of them a repeat offender caught speeding and the other found in a disabled vehicle facing the wrong direction.

At 1:24 a.m., Sergeant E. E. West conducted a traffic stop on American Legion Road for a vehicle exceeding the speed limit. Upon approaching the driver, the sergeant observed red, glassy eyes and a strong odor of alcohol. After administering field sobriety tests, the driver was taken into custody and identified as 34-year-old Bryce Whitaker of Woodbridge.

Whitaker was charged with driving under the influence — his second offense in five years — and reckless driving by speed. He was transported to the Rappahannock Regional Jail and held without bond.

Just over two hours later, at 3:47 a.m., Deputy S. Waheed responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle near Gray Birch Lane and Eustace Road. The vehicle was found facing the wrong direction in the roadway with hazard lights flashing and partially lodged in a ditch.

Upon making contact with the driver, the deputy noticed slurred speech, unsteady movement, and the odor of alcoholic beverages. Field sobriety testing was conducted, and the driver, identified as 51-year-old Kara Alley of Stafford, was placed under arrest.

Alley was charged with driving under the influence and held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a secured bond.
