FEDERALSBURG, MD—A commercial building under construction owned by Choptank Community Health System was the site of an early morning fire on Tuesday at 320 Hargrave Drive, Caroline County. The Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company responded to the incident at 6:32 AM and successfully controlled the fire within 20 minutes.
Upon their arrival, workers discovered a small fire in the electrical room of the building. The preliminary investigation indicates that the fire was incendiary, with evidence of two independent fire points of origin in the electrical room.
Both fires were extinguished before they could spread further.
Thankfully, there were no injuries reported, but the structure sustained an estimated $50,000 in damages. The building was not equipped with smoke alarms or fire sprinkler systems due to its construction status.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Upper Eastern Regional Office is actively investigating the incident and seeking information from the public. Anyone with details about the fire is urged to contact their office at 410-822-7609.
