Early Morning Shooting in Ithaca Results in One Dead

ITHACA, NY – A shooting incident occurred in the City of Ithaca early Thursday morning, leading to one fatality.

Ithaca Police Department officers were dispatched to the vicinity of North Plain Street and West Seneca Street around 3:45 a.m. following reports of gunshots.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of Ernest Lankford, 45, of Ithaca, who had sustained gunshot wounds. Preliminary findings by the Ithaca Police Department suggest that this was not a random act of violence.

No suspects have been named at this time. The investigation is ongoing, and the Ithaca Police Department ask anyone with relevant information to come forward.

Assistance in the investigation was provided by the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police.
