Elderly Man Killed in Scooter Crash in Lewes

LEWES, DE — Delaware State Police are currently investigating a tragic scooter crash that led to the death of a 77-year-old man from Lewes, Delaware. The incident occurred on Sunday, July 29, 2024, at approximately 4:42 p.m. on Clay Road near Marsh Road.

According to preliminary findings, the collision happened when a Honda Accord, driven by a 19-year-old woman from Cheswold, Delaware, was making a left turn onto Marsh Road.

During the maneuver, the vehicle crossed into the path of an oncoming Wolf Brand scooter, which was traveling eastbound on Clay Road.

The scooter collided with the rear passenger’s side of the Honda, causing the scooter’s driver to be ejected from his vehicle.

Emergency responders transported the scooter driver to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The identity of the deceased is currently withheld pending family notification.

The driver of the Honda was not injured in the incident. State Police continue to investigate the dynamics of the crash, and further details will be released as the investigation progresses.
