Elderly Residents Targeted in Bail Scam

UPPER MORELAND, PA – The Upper Moreland Police Department (UMPD), along with neighboring police departments, reports a surge in scams targeting elderly citizens.

A recent case in Upper Moreland involved an elderly resident defrauded of $20,000 by a scammer claiming to collect bail money for a relative.

Law enforcement agencies emphasize that they never solicit bail money at residences or request gift card numbers over the phone. In the reported incident, scammers exploited social media information to lend credibility to their false claims.

The UMPD aks the community to educate elderly family members and friends about these scams and to contact 9-1-1 if targeted or victimized.
