Elizabeth City Woman Charged in Shooting; Boyfriend Arrested on Drug Charges

ELIZABETH CITY, NC — An incident early Saturday morning in Elizabeth City has led to the arrest of a local woman and her boyfriend on separate charges. Porscha Brown, 36, faces serious charges including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, discharging a firearm within city limits, and domestic violence assault.

The arrest occurred after police responded to a shooting on the 1600 block of Brookridge Drive, where they found a man wounded by gunfire. The injured man, identified as Darren Jernigan, 42, was later charged with several drug-related offenses.

Jernigan, who is also Brown’s boyfriend, has been charged with possession with intent to sell/distribute a schedule VI controlled substance, maintaining a dwelling to keep a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was confined at Albemarle District Jail and released after posting a $50,000 secured bond.

Meanwhile, Brown was placed on a 48-hour domestic violence hold at the same facility and was also issued a $50,000 secured bond. The Elizabeth City Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
