Extreme heat advisory issued in North Jersey with temperatures expected over 100 degrees

LINDEN, N.J. — Much of Central and Northern New Jersey is under an extreme heat advisory today.

The Linden Police Department has issued an Extreme Heat Advisory beginning Sunday, warning residents of dangerously high temperatures expected to exceed 100 degrees over the coming days.

Authorities are urging the public to stay cool, remain hydrated, and watch for signs of heat-related illness. Vulnerable populations, including seniors and individuals with chronic health or mental health conditions, are at elevated risk, police said.

“Use air conditioning to stay cool at home or go to a place that has air conditioning,” the department stated, noting that indoor temperatures can quickly surpass outdoor levels in homes without proper cooling.

The advisory includes recommendations from OSHA for those working outdoors, suggesting frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas and immediate relocation to a cooler environment for anyone experiencing heat exhaustion.

Residents are encouraged to check on friends, family, and neighbors who may be especially susceptible to extreme heat.
