Failed burglary attempt leads to arrests in north stafford

NORTH STAFFORD, VA — A botched burglary in the Garrison Woods area led to the detention of two suspects, including a juvenile and an 18-year-old male from Woodbridge, on the afternoon of July 31st.

Deputies were called to the scene at 5:38 p.m. following a report of a breaking and entering. Deputy B.E. Vaughn, upon arrival, spotted the suspects near a visibly damaged apartment door. The suspects initially walked away, disregarding the deputy’s commands to stop, and then began to run, inadvertently leading themselves into a fenced area near a retention pond where they were apprehended.

The chase provided some unusual evidence; the juvenile suspect had accidentally lodged his shoe in the damaged door during his attempt to kick it open, reminiscent of a modern-day Cinderella story. The shoe matched the one still on his foot, linking him directly to the crime.

While Juvenile Intake opted not to detain the younger suspect, he was released to a parent and faces charges including breaking and entering, vandalism, assault, and obstruction. The 18-year-old was charged with obstruction and is currently held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $1,000 bond. The incident highlights a clumsy and poorly planned burglary that quickly unraveled due to the suspects’ lack of familiarity with the area.
