Newark man charged with murder in fatal hit-and-run case

NEWARK, DE — Delaware State Police have charged 35-year-old Joshua Tenaglia of Newark, Delaware, with first-degree murder following a fatal hit-and-run incident on July 5, 2024. The collision, which resulted in the death of 57-year-old Michael D’Aloise, also of Newark, is now being treated as a homicide after a series of investigative breakthroughs.

The incident occurred on Salem Church Road, where D’Aloise was walking along the northbound shoulder. Preliminary reports state that a white Mazda 3, driven by Tenaglia, veered onto the shoulder, striking D’Aloise before fleeing the scene. D’Aloise was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Further investigation revealed that prior to the crash, Tenaglia had been involved in a heated altercation at a nearby business in the Salem Village Square Shopping Center. It appears that Tenaglia, after threatening another individual during this dispute, may have mistaken D’Aloise for his intended target due to similar clothing.

The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit took over the case, leading to Tenaglia’s indictment by a New Castle County Grand Jury on July 29. He was arrested the following day and charged with first-degree murder, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, leaving the scene of a collision resulting in death, and failure to report a collision resulting in injury or death. Tenaglia is currently held at Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $1,066,001 cash bond.
