Fairview Man Charged With Sexual Assault and Child Endangerment in Bergen County

Prosecutors say a Fairview man was arrested following an investigation into alleged sexual assaults involving a juvenile that occurred over several years.

Fairview, NJ – A 59-year-old Fairview man has been arrested and charged with multiple sexual assault offenses following an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and local police.

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced that Elder G. Mimbela-Portilla was taken into custody after investigators determined he allegedly sexually assaulted and endangered a juvenile on multiple occasions.

Investigation began after report to police

According to authorities, the investigation began on March 11 when the Fairview Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding allegations involving a juvenile.

Detectives from the prosecutor’s office and Fairview police launched a joint investigation into the claims.

Alleged assaults occurred over several years

Investigators determined that the alleged incidents took place in Fairview between November 1, 2017 and November 21, 2021.

Authorities said the suspect allegedly assaulted and endangered a juvenile victim on more than one occasion during that period.

Arrest made in Paramus

Following the investigation, Mimbela-Portilla was arrested on March 11 in Paramus.

He has been charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault by contact, and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

Suspect held in Bergen County Jail

Officials said the defendant was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.

Prosecutors emphasized that the charges are accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
