Fatal Collision with Police Vehicle Reported in Long Branch

LONG BRANCH, NJ – On Monday, a collision involving a police vehicle took place in Long Branch, leading to one fatality.

The Long Branch Police Department officers were answering a 911 call around 3:59 a.m., alerting them of an armed break-in at a local residence.

In the midst of their response, a police vehicle collided with another car, believed to be driven by the reported intruder, near MacArthur and Elmwood Avenues.

A female passenger in the civilian car was gravely injured and was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune.

She was declared dead by 7:12 a.m. The driver of the car was arrested and received medical treatment, while the officer involved also received treatment and has been released.
