One dead in D.C. shooting

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A homicide investigation is underway in Northeast D.C. after a man was found dead early Monday morning.

At approximately 6:42 a.m. on Monday, officers responded to a report of a man down in the 5100 block of Sheriff Road, Northeast. Upon arrival, they discovered an unconscious adult male with a gunshot wound. The victim, identified as 51-year-old Herbert Jones of Northeast D.C., was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about this incident to contact the police at (202) 727-9099. Anonymous tips can also be sent via the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411. The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for this homicide.
